Ex-MEP Tory Adviser Balfe knows a thing or two about "lucky" public pensioners

The suddenly ubiquitous former Labour MEP Richard Balfe, who following his defection to the Tories was appointed by David Cameron to liaise with the unions, this morning told Radio 4's Today programme that public sector workers were "lucky" the Government had not already decided to bring in direct contribution pensions in line with most of the private sector. http://www.politicshome.com/uk/story/17934/

Balfe can be regarding as something of an authority on “lucky” public pensioners – having chaired the MEP’s pension club for 14 years! http://www.epfif.com/Pension-committee.asp

And his tenure as the defender Eurocrats privileged pension arrangements was not without controversy. In 2003 Balfe was accused of trying to “blackmail” the President of the European Court of Auditors
into “toning down the Court’s criticism” of the fund. http://www.theparliament.com/no_cache/latestnews/news-article/newsarticle/controversy-flares-over-mep-pensions/
