Former UNISON GS Rodney Bickerstaffe's rounded off Radio 4's Today programme this morning with a tour de force response to the anti union baiting (notably from Cabinet Officer Minister Francis Maude) which had characterised coverage of today's over hyped TUC anti-cuts summit.
Commenting on parallels betwen union fightbacks in the late 1970's Rodney predicted that 'there will be strikes' in the fightback against cuts in jobs and pensions and pointed out that britain has the most right wing anti union legislation in Europe. His comments were endorsed by veteran BBC reporter Nick Jones. listen again at 855AM: http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/listen_again/default.stm
Earlier at 712AM on the same programme UNISON AGS Bob Abberley had set out the UNISON position on the threat posed by Con Dem austerity measures: "pensions is a good example where we might see co-ordinated action and we will support that. At the end of the day we can't do nothing".
