The Sunday Mirror reports on leaked Government plans to extend the qualifying period for protection from unfair dismissal to two years. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2010/10/31/cam-s-war-on-work-rights-115875-22677353/
Prior to October 1979 UK workers had been able to make Tribunal claims after 6 months but the Thatcher Government extended it to two years (in stages - to one year in 1979 and to two years in 1985). Labour reduced the period to one year in the 1999 Employment Relaltions Act. Now in order to create greater 'labour flexibility' the Con Dem's are acting quickly to restore the status quo ante - which is bad news for job security and fairness at work.
