UNISON draws a line in the sand on Cardiff Council services hive off‏

UNISON members in Cardiff have voted to oppose council proposals for large scale privatisation of council services. Last year Indian firm Tata Consultancy Services was the first company to win a 15-year partnership last year - to streamline the council’s IT services. There are plans to bring in four other private-sector partners over coming years.

Mark Turner, Unison’s branch secretary, said: “This is the launch of our campaign to put a stop to the council’s proposals for outsourcing our city’s services. We believe the people of Cardiff do not want to see their services handed over to companies over whom they will have no control. The whole essence of public services is just that – they are supposed to be public.”
