The misnamed Civil Liberty website - a 'front' for BNP member and former North East organiser Kevin Scott - makes fascinating reading: http://www.civilliberty.org.uk/newsdetail.php?newsid=1032
Scott reports on claims that the Northern region of UNISON has been destroyed by its elected lay leadership! This absurd claim is made on the basis that an expelled member of UNISON has won a recent ET against his employer.
There are several inaccuracies in Scott's commentary. To say that the Northern Region is destroyed is sheer fantasy - this is a region which has one of the highest levels of campaigning and engagement in the union. This is a region which has seen a growth in activity and activists. This is a region where no BNP member to date has yet managed to win an election.
The highly offensive article is so full of misinformation it is also laughable - but why does a BNP leading activist feel able to make such ridiculous claims? The BNP have for years targeted the Northern UNISON elected lay leadership and have always lost. The far right's attempt to align themselves with attacks on the union should be treated with the contempt it deserves.
No progressives or anti fascists in the union would want to be associated with scurrilous personal attacks on the union’s elected lay leadership emanating from such sources.
There is no place in our union for the politics of the BNP and we need to stand united to defend our activists against them.
