UNISON GS election - Time to mobilise the Dave Prentis vote‏

A Nation Divided…………
No Clear Mandate………...
The Plurality of Politics…..
Whatever your view of the outcome of the General Election, one thing is certain, after the weekend of wheeling and dealing the target of all politicians will be public services.

With unemployment continuing to rise, the priority must be to secure the recovery from recession, and public services must be at the core of the recovery plan. Across the UK there is a clear majority against deep cuts in public expenditure and this must be reflected in the programme for the next government of whatever form.

It is more important than ever that UNISON is seen to be at the forefront of the campaign to protect and expand public services and jobs. That will require strong, clear and consistent leadership at the head of our trade union.

That means voting for Dave Prentis in the election for General Secretary.

It means securing a clear and bold mandate from our membership.

The massive support evidenced in the nominations must be translated into votes.

The period before the ballot papers fall on members’ doormats, 18 May onwards, is crucial. The week beginning 10 May must be used to mobilise the vote, through leaflet distribution and poster display.

Leaflets, posters and stickers are being sent to all regions. More can be ordered free of charge by individuals emailing orders to electdp2010@hotmail.com
