The leading Irish public service union is holding its biennial conference this week in Kilkenn and is debating the proposed agreement between the Irish government and public sector unions on pay and reform of public services.

The Impact executive had initially opposed the deal but its recent policy somersault - in recommending a ‘yes’ vote in its forthcoming ballot of members - is likely to be critical in securing support for the so called Croke Park deal which has divided down the middle the Irish public sector unions.
