There is one important factor missing and that's HONESTY.
Standing in front of members who are starting to trust you, listening seriously to what you are saying will ask difficult questions - and leaders have to be honest - including admitting you don't know about something if that is the case. Not spinning report-backs to meetings to engineer a result or outcome you personally want.
If a proposed line of action which is going to be difficult and risky say so - the credibility of the union is at stake and members need to know the risks as well as the positive stuff. If someone asks your political affiliation tell them - whats the point in hiding something like that? It just makes you look shifty!
