Report of UNISON NEC meeting 8 June 2011

Public Sector Pensions dominated the deliberations of UNISON’s National Executive Council meeting in London today. Dave Prentis presented a first-hand account of negotiations taking place with Senior Con Dem Ministers on the general principles which will guide sector specific negotiations over the summer. The NEC was informed of extensive campaigning work and ballot preparations being carried out by the union:

Also reported was an upsurge in local disputes with over 30 branches taking industrial action notably in Southampton City Council where an important dispute against imposed pay cuts is taking place. It was agreed to support the planned action by PCS and some other public service unions on 30 June and to issue guidance to UNISON branches.

A timely discussion took place on the crisis ridden Southern Cross and on urgent measures being taken by the union to support over 1,000 members employed by the private care company.
