Over 2000 members of UNISON and the National Union of Teachers mounted joint strike action in Tower Hamlets on Wednesday in protest at the Council’s refusal to guarantee no compulsory redundancies in a London Borough where £72m cuts will be made over the next 3 years.
A highlight of the day was a 1500 strong march along East London’s Whitechapel Road to the London Muslim Centre where UNISON Deputy General Secretary Keith Sonnet was among the speakers: http://www.eastlondonadvertiser.co.uk/news/update_teacher_strike_closes_around_a_third_of_schools_in_tower_hamlets_1_845918
