Tories should crack down on tax cheaters, says UNISON

UNISON General Secretary Dave Prentis has slammed plans by the Tories to cut sickness benefits for hundreds of thousands of claimants.

And he is challenging them to clampdown on tax avoiders instead, as these cheats cost the exchequer up to £80 billion a year.

Dave Prentis said:

“Instead of targeting those claiming sickness benefits, the Tories should be focusing on cracking down on the tax avoidance industry.

“Tax cheats get away with £80 billion a year, which would go a long way to funding public services.

“There’s always criticism of so-called “benefit cheats” because they are an easy target, yet wealthy individuals and companies can avoid paying their fair share of tax.

“We challenge the Tories to target their friends, the tax avoiders, instead of the poor, sick and those living on benefits, desperately trying to make ends meet.
