If you do one thing today, sign the petition for a #PeoplesBudget

There is an alternative to the George Osborne austerity budget. The People’s Assembly has launched a petition calling for a budget for the majority, not the minority. The petition states;-
“Sign the Petition: For a #PeoplesBudget
The Government should reverse damaging austerity, and replace it with a new set of policies providing us with a fair, sustainable and secure future. We will no longer tolerate politicians looking out for themselves and for the rich and powerful. Our political representatives must start governing in the interests of the majority. Hands Off the National Minimum Wage

14 years ago this week, on 1 April 1999, Labour introduced the UK's first ever national minimum wage (NMW) with an adult hourly rate of £3.60. Today it stands at £6.19 and is uprated annually on the recommendation of the Low Pay Commission. Now the Con Dems are insisting that the supposedly impartial body changes its terms of reference to consider the impact on ‘employment and the economy’ before agreeing future increases - leading to press speculation of a freeze or cut in the adult minimum wage rate (the 18 to 20 rate was frozen last October):

TULO has responded quickly and launched a petition calling on the Government to back off from its plans:

Walmart Victimises Union Strikers

Walmart is one of the biggest companies on the world, if it was a country it would have the 25th biggest economy in the world with 2.2 million workers. It is a giant and is exporting American labour practices around the world - De unionization, casualisation, low wages and the destruction of local alternatives. For every 2 jobs it creates it destroys 2.8 in the local economy according to labour researchers. For public service workers it gives us a terrible glimpse of the future.

Please sign and circulate it to everyone you know! The target is 100,000 signatures so that the demand will be debated in parliament...
