The News International dispute in 1986-87 was a turning point in the history of the British press. The sacking of virtually an entire workforce by the owner Rupert Murdoch introduced the age of corporate control that today determines what people are told about the world by the professional media. 5500 workers were sacked in a ruthlessly planned union busting exercise aided and abetted by the right wing EETPU union. Brooks arrest brings justice for Daniel Morgan closer
Private investigator Daniel Morgan was murdered with an axe in a pub car park in south London in 1987.

Cameron must resign
Even before the trials and the enquiries it's clear at least in terms of Coulson, who was - along with another journalist - arrested the other day, apparently on suspicion of bribing police officers, and has been bailed till October. David Cameron, as ever, has insisted that even though it didn't work out, he feels he had been right to offer Coulson 'a second chance'. Celebrities so called, having problems with Rupert Murdoch’s newspapers were never going to excite us. Since ninety plus per cent of tabloid output consists of gossip relayed by a member of Cheryl Popstar’s inner circle or an intimate friend of Robbie Football-Millionaire or one of Jenny Megastar’s crew, the idea that their privacy had been invaded was a strange one.
