Washed up failed Tory Party leadership contender David Davies uses a column in today’s Daily Mail to wage war against public services trade unionists and attack our right to strike. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1326826/Cameron-told-Rip-outdated-union-laws-rival-David-Davis.html
Davies argues that ‘it is undoubtedly possible for a government to remove the right to strike from a limited number of areas where irresponsible action would unfairly oppress or put the public at risk. It is more difficult to do it in a way that respects the rights of employees and encourages sensible negotiating practice and good industrial relations. But it is not impossible. ‘
In recent years former Shadow Home Secretary Davies sought to position himself as a champion of civil liberties, http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2009/feb/20/civil-liberties-laws-david-davis
He even resigned and re-stood for his Commons seat in an ultimate act of gesture politics, merely to draw attention to himself: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/7450627.stm
But as in the case of most Tories, the freedom and liberties championed by Davies don’t extend to working people. No doubt this reactionary could articulate a case for limiting the right to vote to property owning classes.
