UNISON parents with children in nursery would have been shocked last night by the decision of Ofsted to privatise inspection of nursery provision. UNISON members in Ofsted where inspectors with specific qualifications in the pre school education field are being made redundant will be astonished.
While the news was reported in the Guardian, no details can be on Ofsted’s own web site. The press release as reported offers no justification as to why such vital services are to be hived of to the private sector. Interestingly no government press release can be found on the matter either Have we really reached a point where vital parts of the public service can be sold off without an explanation?
The £64million contract for half the nurseries in England has been awarded to a company called the Tribal group whose website proclaims that they have “expertise across many sectors”. However a site searches reveals no information about their expertise in pre school education and produces no significant results-other than that an organisation called the KMS group has been involved in nursery provision in India.
UNISONactive will leave it to its readers to come up with an explanation as to why this should be.
Meantime everyone with an interest in seeing the highest standards in education will simply wonder what the **** is going on.
