Royal Mail: urge the government to intervene‏

Over the next couple of days postal workers will be on strike. They are striking because Royal Mail have left them with no choice. Management intransigence in the face of a simple union request - talks at the conciliation service ACAS - means the workforce had no option. Click and show your support.

Compass has released a statement today - Saving Royal Mail. It is signed by over 50 influential figures from across civil society who have all called on the government to refer the dispute to ACAS and establish an independent review. Will you join them?

It only takes a moment to urge the Business Secretary to immediately intervene - click here to join in and show your support for the postal workers: http://action.compassonline.org.uk/RoyalMailACAS

Today Compass has released a poll showing 57% of the public support calls for the government to intervene and make Royal Mail go to ACAS. Furthermore 60% believe the government should set up an independent review on the future of Royal Mail with the involvement of all stakeholders.

Royal Mail is a precious public institution that treats us all equally and that presents an icon of what it is to be British. We now need the government to act urgently to save it and build it as a great British public service.

You can help us persuade the government to intervene and force Royal Mail management to go to ACAS and then establish an independent review. Please send Peter Mandelson an email demanding he intervene, encourage others to do the same and then sign our statement:

It's now the job of government to urgently force all sides to the ACAS table and announce an independent review of Royal Mail so all stakeholders can have a say on its future, this would guarantee the government encourages co-operation not confrontation.

Please take action now and urge the government to intervene!

Best wishes
