Report of Latin America 2013 ¡Adelante!
This weekend's 9th Annual Latin America ¡Adelante! conference paid moving tributes to three giants of the progressive revolutionary movement at the weekend. The deaths of Nelson Mandela and Hugo Chavez and the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Salvador Allende brought sadness but also hope to over 500 delegates packed into Congress House in London.

Venezuela – respect the will of the people
Following the election of Nicolas Maduro, a close ally of the late Hugio Chavez, in yesterday’s Venezuelan Presidential election, 150 British politicians, trade unionists and leading people from public life have called for the result to be respected: “it is for the Venezuelan people alone to choose their next government, free from any external intervention and that governments around the world should respect the official results”

Latin America 2012: Courage, solidarity and inspiration
It is impossible to put in words the feeling I had listening to Aidee Moreno from Colombia’s Agricultural Workers Union at Saturday's Latin America 2012 event in London. You are in shock when she tells how her husband was murdered in 1994, her mother ten years later and then numerous other members of her family. On top of this you are numb listening to tales of the thousands of members assassinated, disappeared or in prison. Living with two bodyguards because she is a trade union leader, Aidee is a brave and unbelievably stoic individual who makes as powerful case for international solidarity as I have ever heard.

Labour delegates hear about advances in Cuba & Venezuela
At a packed conference fringe tonight in Liverpool a glittering array of speakers talked of the importance of fighting for social justice, solidarity and internationalism. The effect of dragging people out of poverty can never be diminished as long as it is understood and supported by the will of the people, as has been so clearly demonstrated by Cuba and Venezuela.

Oliver Stone's 'South of the Border' - a summer must see!
It is rare to see political films with a message of truth about injustice, especially over a summer of Toy Stories, Expendables and A Teams. But , not for the first time, Oliver Stone has made a film that has offended the right wing in the USA and the liberal circles of the UK. His journey across South America and his presentation of the Bolivarian revolution that is going on is such a smack in the mouth for the neo conservatives that it is a miracle that it ever got made.
