Concert celebrates UCS work-in

.. an emotional moment when UNISON's Mike Kirby, STUC President, invited veterans of the UCS leadership to the stage at a Glasgow Celtic Connections concert celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Upper Clyde Shipbuilders work-in. It came after a year-long series of events marking the anniversary of 1971. At least one more is still to come with showings of contemporary films made by Cinema Action, the only film crew allowed into the yards by the Stewards. Glasgow commemorates 40th anniversary of UCS occupation

Trade unionists and the wider community are set to mark the 40th anniversary of one of the greatest moments in Scottish Working Class History – the Clyde Ship Yard Workers occupation to save their Ship Yard. UCS concert hits the note for the future as well as the past

The mournful moan of a cello, and the sharp clang of hammers introduced Work-in at UCS, the premiere of a brass and traditional instrument suite written especially for this 40th anniversary concert, by prominent scottish composer, Eddie McGuire. The eclectic mix of instruments signalled the variety of the concert put together by Musical Directors, Rab Noakes and Hilary Brooks.
