Tribune reports on a surprisingly candid speech by Cabinet Office minister Francis Maude in which he discloses the Tory grand plan to ‘eradicate the state provision of public services’ in the UK. This supports the view that the current Government is far more extreme than the Thatcher regime which itself wrought destruction on working people and public services:

Maude's neo-liberal world view is pithily put as follows “The state is an inherently monopolistic entity and a state monopoly can be the enemy of enterprise. Within the public sector there is a legion of entrepreneurs, fired with the public service ethos but deeply frustrated with the constraints imposed by the monolith within which they are imprisoned.”
