New NEC gets down to business

UNISON's new NEC met today in London as a two day meeting got underway with agreement on committee allocations and a programme of meetings for the 2011/13 term of office: http://www.unison.org.uk/news/news_view.asp?did=7046

Following workshop sessions to review the recent National Delegate Conference, the NEC received a comprehensive presentation on the ongoing negotiations on public sector pensions.

Simplistic demands for UNISON to unilaterally 'name a date' or even more ludicrously agree a 'shortlist' of dates for industrial action attracted negligible support.

As tomorrow's mistimed and futile ultra left lobby of the NEC in support of this position shows - the lobby being held the day after pensions has been debated as per the agenda! - when you name a date for any action you've got to get the timing right.
