Keith Ewing, writing on the Guardian website, exposes the hypocrisy and intellectual inconsistency of right wing Tory MP Dominic Raab, who is the moving force behind a 10 minute rule Bill to impose further restrictions on the right to strike: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/libertycentral/2011/apr/26/dominic-raab-strike-bill
Keith points out that in last year’s General Election Raab polled 32,134 votes in Esher and Walton, less than 50% in a constituency of 76,962 electors, more than a quarter of whom did not even bother to vote... ‘yet Raab's election was not annulled’.
Despite Raab being the author of a book, ‘The Assault on Liberty’, which documents the loss of civil liberties in Britain, he sees no contradiction attacking trade union freedoms in a country where, as Keith rightly states, ‘trade unions (are) already shackled like no others in the developed world’.
