Retreat on 'enabling Council' in Tory-led Bury

Bury Council in the North West is now back pedalling on outsourcing plans with the Council’s Chief Executive claiming in a recent radio interview that everything was ‘on the table’ but there were no plans to simply outsource everything.  http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereveningnews/news/s/1416887_bury-council-in-u-turn-over-outsourcing-services

A key line about presuming the council would NOT be the provider of services has now been withdrawn from a critical report following widespread local opposition. This is in stark contrast to earlier interviews with Council Leader Bob Bibby reminiscing about Thatcher and Nicolas Ridley. Long may public opposition continue.

Council services are worth fighting for and in this northern town it shows the Tories in their true unreconstructed right wing light.
