Cameron on a mission to destroy public services

Tory Prime Minister David Cameron uses today’s Daily Telegraph as a platform to announce his intention to destroy public services as we know them: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/8337237/David-Cameron-promises-public-sector-revolution.html

Harking back to the Compulsory Competitive Tendering era of the 80’s & 90’s, Cameron confirms that an ‘Open Public Services’ White Paper on public sector reform will be published in the next 2 weeks, which will give private companies the right to bid to run any public service. Voluntary groups and charities will also be given the right to run schools, hospitals and vast swathes of council services.

Cameron’s phoney justification for the plans is a purported but fictitious “state monopoly” over public sector work. In the parallel Tory universe – where the imperative is to deliver new markets to its big business backers – it’s as though the last 30 years of relentless privatisation and outsourcing have never happened.
