Speaking out for public services‏

Newspapers such as The Economist and The New York Times started the new year with articles that highlight the efforts of right-wing interests to make public services workers the scapegoats for the economic crisis. PSI and EPSU have written a joint response to The Economist.

PSI affiliates such as AFSCME have launched new campaigns to combat the lies. The European Trade Union Confederation has warned the European Commission about its role in implementing the EU/International Monetary Fund rescue packages in Greece and Ireland.

PSI's Canadian affiliate National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) has also responded with this letter to the Economist editor. 'The scapegoating of public employees by The Economist is an insidious way of dividing public and private sector workers who actually share the same aspirations' said NUPGE President James Clancy.
