In the Mail on Sunday David Laws MP, the discredited and short lived Con Dem Cabinet Minister, gives an inside account of the deal which led to the formation of a Coalition Government in May: http://tinyurl.com/365tfa9
Interestingly, the Mail reports that Buckingham Palace ‘together with the Conservative and Liberal Democrat leaders, made Mr Brown believe he still had a chance of clinging to power – even though they knew he didn’t – because it was feared he might resign too quickly and leave Britain without a Government.’
Thinking back to events in the immediate aftermath of the 6 May General Election it is comi-tragic to recall the gullibility of Brown and the New Labour leadership including sections of the trade union movement taken in by this charade - notably Unite the Union who was lobbying its parliamentary group for a Lab-Lib deal at the very time a coalition agreement was being hatched in secret - in the face of the devious machinations of the British establishment: http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2010/may/11/general-election-2010-live-blog
How they must have laughed with derision in their Gentleman’s Clubs and Masonic Lodges on the night of 11 May 2010!
