Johan Hari writing in today’s Independent refers to the ‘ripple of rage’ spreading across Britain in response to austerity measures and says that protest works:
‘You don’t know what the amazing ripple-effect of your protest will be – but wouldn’t Britain be a better place if it replaced the ripple of impotent anger so many of us are feeling? Yes, you can sit back and let yourself be ripped off the bankers and the corporations and their political lackeys if you want. But it’s an indulgent fiction to believe that is all you can do. You can act in your own self-defence.’

Hari fails to mention that much of the protest action is being led by unions but his call to arms echoes that made by former UNISON GS Rodney Bickerstaffe, addressing the Lothian Health branch AGM earlier this year: http://unisonactive.blogspot.com/2010/02/stand-up-and-whinge-says-bick.html
