Unions and Labour – insourcing victory‏

A newly elected Labour Council has moved to take services back in-house. The London Borough of Ealing, which saw Labour capture 17 seats in the elections earlier this year, has decided to take its highways services back in-house from contractor Mouchel next year when the current contract comes to an end.

As a result, it expects to save £3.3 million over the next 5 years. The council believes it will provide the same or better level of service, and will save money by “not having to pay a profit mark up”. Labour in London have agreed to work with UNISON London Region to ensure in-house options are fully explored.
