One week before the TUC congress and the anti union media ultras are on the attack. Ex Labour councillor turned anti union obsessive Leo McKinstry is quick to jump on the union facility time bandwagon following yesterday’s attacks by the Sunday Telegraph/Tax Dodgers’ Alliance.

He uses his Express column to denounce public sector unions in hysterical and war like terms: “the Coalition Government is about to face its greatest test….already the militants are gearing up for a major confrontation….The Coalition has to get tough.”
McKinstry’s tabloid journalism should not be dismissed as merely a wild eyed rant from a labour movement apostate. It is that of course. But taken together with other media attacks on public sector unions what we are witnessing is an orchestrated ideological attack on our right to organise ahead of a period of public services restructuring unprecedented in living memory. It needs to be rebuffed quickly by public sector unions acting in unity. Let’s put our political funds to good use combating these attacks – based on a first principle that an injury to one is an injury to all.
And today that means solidarity with RMT fighting for workers rights and passenger safety on the London underground:
