The Hutton Commission maybe on the verge of giving the Treasury the opportunity to go for a quick win on public sector pensions according to Public Finance magazine:

Echoing the recommendations made in the London Pension Fund Authority's submission to the Commission it seems a head of steam is building up that will see Osbourne move to force through cuts in benefits, increases in contributions and a longer working life for LGPS members. Normally such changes would need to be consulted on but can we rely on normality in a period of insane austerity?
When the inevitable gauntlet is thrown down all unions must be ready to respond with same unity shown across the public services in 2005.
