Ahead of next week’s 2010 Congress, TUC General Secretary Brendan barber has issued a stark warning that the cuts being implemented by the Con Dem Government are ‘'far more radical and dangerous than we have seen since the 1930s'. http://tinyurl.com/3ac7qd7
Barber drew a parallel with the upsurge in mass opposition the Thatcher Government’s ill fated poll tax in the early 1990’s ‘The poll tax was a flagship policy and hugely unpopular. As a result, all over the country ordinary people were deeply opposed to it. Once the cuts start to bite, you'll start to see a similar reaction. The poll tax offended the British people's basic sense of what's fair. So will the spending cuts’.
The Government’s austerity programme will be the dominant issue at next week’s Congress.
