Solidarity greetings from Canada‏

Addressing UNISON NDC this afternoon Paul Moist National President of the Canadian Public Sector union CUPE condemned the murderous action by the Israeli army in attacking the humanitarian flotilla heading for Gaza. He demanded that there should be an immediate independent investigation into the incident.

Paul went on to outline the current economic situation facing Canada’s public sector workers. He blew apart Cameron and Clegg’s praise for the so-called Canadian model. The neo-liberal polices being pursued in Canada since 1995 have stripped the country of basic services. Today child poverty stands at 20% while 44% of workers cannot get health insurance. Paul said the time had come for workers across the globe to fight for workers rights, decent public services, and peace. The first step is to campaign for an immediate introduction of a Tobin Tax.

A united Trade Union movement can be an irresistible force for good he declared.
