Tory led Nottinghamshire County Council is intending to privatise 13 services which could lead to over 3000 staff transferring to the private sector. http://bit.ly/cyRhye
Services earmarked for externalisation include ‘road repairs, school meals, cleaning of schools, libraries and other public buildings, meals on wheels, the operation of the National Water Sports Centre, and the country parks at Rufford and Sherwood.’
UNISON branch organiser Mike Scott attacked the council over its plans:
"Everything necessary or profitable has got a "For Sale" sign on it. Fat cat private companies will be licking their lips at the prospect of getting their hands on our services. Worse still, vital employment and training services for disabled people are at risk. In the current financial crisis, the public sector has a crucial role in the Nott's economy."
