Hard on the heels of yesterday’s general strike in France, today Italian trade unionists have followed suit. The CGIL union federation is reporting mass support for today’s strike against Government austerity measures:
“More than one million workers took to the streets today with the Italian CGIL. These estimates of the organizers announced by the Deputy Secretary General Susan Camusso Bologna. Marches, rallies and demonstrations were organized in all regions. Among the main squares in 100 000 people attended the parade in Bologna, with the deputy secretary general Susanna Camusso, Milan, Naples 70,000, over 40,000 in Rome and Palermo 25,000, 20,000 L'Aquila, ten thousand Cagliari and Bari in the whole Veneto the project resulted in the square about 80,000 workers.”
