Trade unionists at higher education institutions across the UK are set to mount a “day of dissent” as part of a campaign for an improved 2010/11 pay offer and enhanced job security. The action has been agreed by the five higher education unions – the Educational Institute of Scotland, the GMB, UNISON, Unite and the University and College Union. http://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/story.asp?sectioncode=26&storycode=411523&c=1
UNISON has 50 000 members in HE and Jon Richards, the union's head of higher education said: "We will be asking our branches to liaise with all sister unions on campus to ensure a joint event and we are in discussions with FE colleagues who are keen to do the same thing on the same day.
We are suggesting that the day of dissent will be 10 June - unless your institution has a specific governance meeting during the week beginning 7 June which it might be more appropriate for you to lobby."
