CGIL calls for europe-wide protests against austerity budgets‏

CGIL, Italy's largest trade union centre, (its public services federation has a formal alliance with UNISON) is urging its counterparts around Europe to join together in joint protests against austerity budgets in various countries.

CGIL leader Guglielmo Epifani told Reuters in an interview on Friday: "in this moment we need initiatives at a European level." CGIL will make the call at an ETUC executive committee meeting in Brussels on June 1 and will hold a nationwide strike against Italy's 24-billion euro austerity plan on June 25.
