Prentis tells the FT - UNISON is up for the fight ahead‏

UNISON GS Dave Prentis is interviewed in today’s FT and states that “you will see more militancy, you will see more social dislocation if services are wound down. It will be a hell of a test, but I think we are up for it.”

UNISON will challenge a Government hell bent on making cuts regardless of political affiliation “it only takes a politician to start banging the table looking for massive cuts now and being more macho than the others. If that were to happen, that would precipitate disputes.”

Dave went on to say that an attack on pensions would provoke a “big national strike” but disputes over jobs were more likely to happen at local level “it is unlikely that we would take national industrial action over jobs but we would keep it to where employers at local level refuse to do deals with us which protect our members.”
