UNISON NEC member Mark Clifford this week addressed Cumbria Police in an event to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. He recounted his personal experience as a victim of racist attacks and made connections between attacks on minorities today with the systematic fascism of the 1930s and 1940s.
Mark said: “There are still Holocausts going on in the world today, only now we call them genocides and the similarities between Hitler’s rise in the 1930s and the rise of the far right in this country with the BNP are absolutely scary. Like the Nazis did, they’ve legitimised themselves. The very same people Hitler identified as worthless are the people they do.”
