New war for oil? Conspiracy theories abound amidst the tragedy‏

We know that large amounts of oil had been discovered in Cuba as reported in a Guardian article on Saturday, October 18th 2008. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/oct/18/cuban-oil.

What was not as extensively reported is that “Under Haitian soil it is rich in oil and fuel”. “We have identified 20 oil sites.” said ‘Daniel Mathurin, co author of the report that stated that “5 of them are considered of great importance by specialists and politicians.”

“The Central Plateau, including the region of Thomonde, the plain of the Cul-de-Sac and the bay of Port-au-Prince are full of hydrocarbons,” he said adding that “the oil reserves of Haiti are more important than those of Venezuela.” “An Olympic pool compared to a glass of water; that is the comparison to illustrate the importance of Haitian oil compared with those of Venezuela,” he explains. http://womblog.de/2010/01/23/oil-in-haiti-economic-reasons-for-the-unus-occupation/

We also know there is extensive evidence that drilling for oil or gas can cause earthquakes

In a country that has never before had an earthquake - remember everyone was thinking as if in hurricane mode and ran in doors - it is no surprise that so many Haitians are now buried under rubble?

Oil may also explain why America has now effectively occupied this poor country although the fact that it is strategically at a hub of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua may well be part of their real thinking.

Maybe all these stories (and others) are just inevitable and/or wishful thinking by the conspiracy theorists. Maybe it really was just an act of nature. However all sorts of stories are now appearing. An unconfirmed report by the Russian Northern Fleets says the Haiti earthquake was caused by a flawed US Navy 'earthquake weapons' test before the weapons could be utilized against Iran:

Hugo Chavez has gone on Venezuelan TV to explain how this was done:

One thing is sure. The humanitarian tragedy that is Haiti will not obscure this industry for long and many more will appear before any sense of normality returns to the people of Haiti!
