Mobilise in support of the People's Charter‏

Supporters of the People’s Charter for change are now mobilising to secure one million signatures in support of the Charter. this follows on from the overwhelming support for the Charter’s demands at the 2009 Trades Union Congress (http://www.congressvoices.org/2009/32-peoples-charter/)

The main demands of the charter are:

1. A fair economy for a fairer Britain. Take the leading banking, insurance and mortgage industries fully into democratic public ownership run for the benefit of all.

2. More and better jobs. Public and private investment must create new jobs paying decent money.

3. Decent homes for all. Stop the repossessions and keep people in their homes. Offer "no-interest" loans and control rents.

4. Protect and improve our public services - no cuts. Save public money - bring energy, transport, water, post and telecommunications back and keep post in public ownership.

5. Fairness and Justice. Free heating and transport for every pensioner.

6. Build a secure and sustainable future for all. End the cost of war in blood and money and bring our troops home.

The charter has the support of several national unions and joint union mobilising work is most advanced in Scotland, where UNISON Scotland was an early supporter of the Charter (http://www.thepeoplescharter.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=32:scotland-builds-the-peoples-charter&catid=1:charter-news&Itemid=14)
A People’s Charter convention is being held in London on 21 November. Details are available from the campaign website along with other information on how UNISON regions, branches and members can support the push for one million pro-Charter signatures.
