Warning from Dave Prentis - job cuts will lead to industrial strife

TUC: As the TUC Congress approaches there is overdue media attention beingpaid to the trade union response to Britain's economic crisis and the bankrupt solutions of those who argue for public spending cuts at a time of rising unemployment and falling economic demand.

In the Financial Times of 11 September 2009 UNISON's General Secretary issued a stark warning to those seeking to make public service workers carry the burden of the bankers failures:

"Whichever party is in power, we are in for a very difficult time," said Dave Prentis, general secretary of Unison, the largest public sector union. He said the primary focus would be campaigning for public support against cuts affecting services.

"But we will work withother unions and oppose at local level the reorganisations that will lead to job losses - and that could lead to industrial strife." http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/2b070fb8-9e41-11de-b0aa-00144feabdc0.html?ftcamp=rss&nclick_check=1
