UNISON Northern Ireland to fight health cuts

UNISON in Northern Ireland has come out fighting against plans to cut the number of beds by 150 in Belfast’s two main hospitals - with more cuts to follow elsewhere.

Patricia McKeown, Regional Secretary, said the union would take industrial action to fight the cuts: "Somebody has to stand up for our health service. Once again it will be left to front line health workers to defend them on behalf of us all.

"Every community in Northern Ireland will be affected by what is happening in health. Existing inequalities are set to grow. If you just lost your job at Visteon, Nortel or Seagate you need your health and social services more than ever.”
