At a time of economic crisis and plans by all of the main political parties to make public expenditure cuts, a new report by Greenpeace reveals the true cost of the Trident replacement programme, over its 30 year life span, to be £97 billion. http://www.greenpeace.org.uk/blog/peace/trident-costs-are-running-out-control-20090917
As Kate Hudson General Secretary CND said in Saturday's Morning Star:
"When Britain is facing severe economic crisis and ordinary people's living standards, pay and conditions are under attack, it is outrageous that our government should consider going ahead with Trident replacement. These latest figures serve to underline the excessive waste of public resources that the government is planning to make on weapons of mass destruction. The government must take this matter seriously and scrap Trident as a matter of urgency."

CND continues to mobilise against Trident - a campaign which is an urgent priority both for a safer world and to protect socially useful public services from Government cuts.
